Thomas Frank

Thomas is artisan jeweller working from Byron Bay, Australia. His jewellery is always unique, handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces or part of a limited edition collection. He loves white metals and his creative journey took him to centre his work more around raw and masculine jewellery, driven by simplicity in design. Thomas’ pieces are a reflection on himself, his lifestyle and life story, there is no single piece being created which has not his full heart, his inner rebel and strive for simplicity and perfection concealed.

Thomas was born in East Germany where he grew up in the poetic town of Weimar, before he moved to Poland and Ghana with his parents. Grown up behind the iron curtain in East Germany as a regime rebelling punk and later gothic in the 80ies and 90ies he experienced many obstacles in early life and could not follow his dream of becoming a nautical engineer. When the Berlin wall came down in 1989 he was right there and the new freedom offered all the opportunities he aspired for. Thomas moved to the former West Germany, run his own bar in one of the best beach towns in Germany, lived later in South Africa, worked as a roadie for the biggest bands and festivals in Europe, surfed the waves of all the Canary Islands, studied Interior Design, build Solar plants in Africa and much more. He truly enjoyed being a vagabond until he met his wife in London in 2006 and then moved to Melbourne for some time; before he then lived and started to work as jewellery designer and maker in Singapore. In 2015 he returned to his favourite place -Byron Bay; and there was only one thing to do – make his exceptional jewellery and indulge on everything the Northern Rivers have to offer – the waves, the beaches, the sun, the lush hills with their windy roads and the arts vibe!

Thomas was teaching Metal Smithing at the Jewellery Design & Management International School Website: http://jdmis.edu.sg in Singapore and studied with a Master Jeweller in Florence. He loves to pass on the art of making beautiful and handcrafted jewellery and is running several workshops throughout each year out of the Hammer & Hand Metal and Jewellery Collective Facebook:Facebook.com in Byron Bay’s Arts and Industrial Estate. More than 100 people from around Australia have already participated in his workshops since launching in 2016 and unfolded their grand creativity with metal.
