Rosie and I are on the road to Deloraine in Tasmania where I will be helping with the “Tasmanian Artist Blacksmiths “demonstration at the Tasmanian Craft Fair (I will be comparing and stopping them talking to girls while they build a piece of street furniture for the town . I am also part of a group metal exhibition at Artifakt Gallery in Deloraine titled “A Forged Landscape”.

I made some new sterling silver earrings today using the Cuttle Bone Casting technique. There’s lots of cuttle bone on the beaches around Byron Bay and it’s fun to collect. It’s very soft so you can use just about anything to carve designs into it. It’s very resistant to heat so it’s perfect for using as a mold to cast jewellery. Cuttle bone has a beautiful wavy texture that is transferred to the finished item. Here are some pictures of the process…
and here’s the finished earrings…

…I’ve just noticed my ‘Pendants’ folder is groaning under the weight of un-posted neck decorations – must be time to set a few free!
Enjoy!

As I sit her with my cat on my knee to keep me warm, I’m thinking very fondly of Bruce’s fire drums and the cosy, cheerfulness of that night a few weeks ago that was our last exhibition….and remembering that I haven’t posted pictures of my work for the occasion – so here they are!
